I-RECs Market Update (2019)

The I-REC Standard recently provided some updates.

30 Countries Now Covered by IRECs

As of October 2019, six new countries are now set up to issue and sell I-RECs via the I-REC Standard: Egypt, Costa Rica, Panama, Oman, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Sri Lanka. This brings the total number of I-REC countries to thirty.

Annual I-RECs Issuance Climbs Past 14m

The I-REC Standard also provided updated statistics for I-REC issuance across all these countries up until the end of August 2019. Over 14 million 2018 RECs and over 3 million 2019 RECs were issued in the 12 months to 31 August 2019, with China and Brazil accounting for approximately two thirds of the total.
