Kenya GCC solar malindi solar farm Monsoon Carbon
Malindi Solar Farm is a 40MW solar development that is connected to the Kenyan national grid. Over 150,000 solar panels were installed on the site and these will initially yield almost 100 GWh of renewable electricity each year, or 1.6m MWh over the life of the project.

The Project Owner, GlobalEq is owned by British International Investment, Norfund and Africa Energy Development Corporation. Malindi Solar Farm received funding from British International Investment and DEG, the German development finance institution.

Expected Issuance

The average annual issuance is 100,000 RECs.

Sustainable Development Contributions

While renewable electricity accounts for over 70% of installed capacity in Kenya, the rural population has a significant challenge in accessing electricity. Almost 30% of the Kenyan population cannot access electricity.

Malindi Solar Farm contributes to SDG 7 “Clean Energy”, SDG 13 “Emissions Reductions”, SDG 8 “Job Creation” and SDG 4 “Quality Education”.

Malindi Solar Farm has an extensive partnership with the local community, including local employment and scholarships for local students. The Project also constructed a new 220 kv substation that has already been handed over to Kenya Power and Lighting Company for use as national grid infrastructure.
