Monsoon Carbon has registered a new renewable energy project in Cambodia!

This continues Monsoon’s mission to make I-RECs supply available across Asia, adding to our existing network of supply across Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and more.

Battambang Solar Power Plant

Battambang Solar Power Plant is currently in operation in Battambang Province, Northwest Cambodia.
The Project was commissioned in March 2021 with an installed capacity of 74 MWp, generating about 115 GWh per year.

Battambang Solar Power Plant helps to meet the country’s rapidly growing demand for energy, supporting the needs of 180,000 people in Cambodia. This project also supports Cambodia’s efforts to meet climate action goals, reducing emissions by about 50,000 tCO2e p.a..

RECs from this project are now available for purchase.

About RECs

A REC is evidence that a unit of electricity was generated from a renewable source. RECs are issued and purchased on the basis that one certificate represents one megawatt hour of renewable electricity.

These certificates are purchased and retired to reduce a company’s Scope 2 emissions. Outside of the EU and the US, the most common standard for RECs is the International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC).

Purchasing I-RECs is a cost-effective way to reduce a company’s carbon footprint. For the owners of renewable energy projects, I-RECs reward a project for the environmental attributes of the power they generate. This incentivises the replacement of non-renewable power and supports the transition to clean, renewable national grids.
