Monsoon Carbon、ケニアで初のI-RECプロジェクトを登録

セクションにジャンプ

Monsoon Carbon has registered a solar power plant in Kenya under the International Attribute Tracking Standard (formerly the I-REC Standard), marking the first I-REC project in the country.

This continues Monsoon’s mission to make I-RECs supply available across emerging markets, adding to our existing network of supply across Uganda, South Africa, Cambodia, Bangladesh and more.

Companies in Kenya can now Purchase I-RECs!

The project is now generating solar I-RECs available for purchase, enabling companies in Kenya to certify their consumption of renewable electricity and reduce their climate impact.

The average annual issuance is 100,000 I-RECs.

Benefits of this I-REC Project

This project helps meet Kenya’s growing energy demand and provides electricity to underserved areas.

It supports the goal of a 100% renewable electricity system by 2030, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The project also empowers local communities through employment opportunities and scholarships, contributing to SDGs 7 (Clean Energy), 13 (Emissions Reductions), 8 (Job Creation), and 4 (Quality Education)

About RECs

A REC is evidence that a unit of electricity was generated from a renewable source. RECs are issued and purchased on the basis that one certificate represents one megawatt hour of renewable electricity.

These certificates are purchased and retired to reduce a company’s Scope 2 emissions. Outside of the EU and the US, the most common standard for RECs is the International Attribute Tracking Standard (formerly the I-REC Standard).

Purchasing I-RECs is a cost-effective way to reduce a company’s carbon footprint. For the owners of renewable energy projects, I-RECs reward a project for the environmental attributes of the power they generate. This incentivises the replacement of non-renewable power and supports the transition to clean, renewable national grids.
